Evaluating Tributary Jitter from the SDH Network

چکیده

In the long term, the synchronous SDH network may develop to the state where asynchronous networks will only exist at the periphery of the synchronous network, and all transport through the network is on SDH. However, this is an ideal model that may not be prevalent until well into the next century. At present, and during this intervening period as the SDH network evolves, the hybrid synchronous/asynchro-nous network will predominate. Thus a signal may experience several synchronous/asynchro-nous conversions during its passage through the network. As SDH equipment is installed in the network, SDH islands will appear. Initially, these SDH islands are likely to be point-to-point networks. As the SDH portions of the network increase, these islands will merge to form larger more sophisticated islands consisting of not only Path Terminating Equipment (PTE) but also Add/Drop Multiplexers (ADM), Digital Cross-connect Systems (DCS), etc. As the tributary signal traverses these larger SDH islands as part of an VC, phase and/or frequency differences between SDH network elements will induce pointer activity in the SDH signal.

Design of DS 1 Transport Device in SDH Network ∗

Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) and Synchronous Optical Network (SONET) are the standards for lightwave transmission systems, which can accommodate various existing signal types via Tributary Units (TUs) or Virtual Tributaries (VTs). In the SDH standards, Tributary Unit-11 (TU-11) is used to transport the DS1 signal with payload pointer and path overheads. In this paper, asynchronous floati...

White Paper : High - Speed Jitter Testing of XFP

Jitter is a key performance factor in high-speed digital transmission systems, such as synchronous optical networks/synchronous digital hierarchy (SONET/SDH), optical transport networks (OTN), and 10 Gigabit Ethernet (GigE). This paper outlines the differences between telecom and datacom jitter standards and describes the various jitter applications for compliance testing of 10G small form-fact...

Synchronization Processes and Jitter Generation along a SDH Transmission Chain: a Review and Measurement Results

New timing issues have been raised by Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH), which implies new phenomena generating jitter and wander compared to those well known in legacy networks based on the Plesiochronous Digital Hierarchy (PDH). First, this paper reviews the bit and byte synchronization processes that take place in a SDH transmission chain: the mapping of PDH tributaries into SDH frames, th...

Evaluating Multipath TCP Resilience against Link Failures

Standard TCP is the de facto reliable transfer protocol for the Internet. It is designed to establish a reliable connection using only a single network interface. However, standard TCP with single interfacing performs poorly due to intermittent node connectivity. This requires the re-establishment of connections as the IP addresses change. Multi-path TCP (MPTCP) has emerged to utilize multiple ...
